House of Chocolate Grenada Museum

Last Saturday, I decided to knock off an item on my ‘places to go’ list and go somewhere I’ve been meaning to go since January – House of Chocolate Grenada Museum! I actually changed all my plans at the last minute and made it my duty to be there.

***This is not a paid post. I did not receive any compensation and ALL opinions are my own.***

House of Chocolate Grenada, located on Young Street, St. George’s, (where one of Grenada’s first tourist boutique – Tikal – used to be), is a mini-museum where you can find a wealth of information on the history of chocolate in Grenada and learn all about the process of making chocolate.

If you ever get to visit House of Chocolate Grenada, I urge you to take a tour with Dain James. Dain is uber knowledgeable and He recaps the history of cocoa in Grenada with much enthusiasm and charisma! He also takes time to engage with his audience.

He also explains the chocolate making process from the bean to bar.

Dain listed the health benefits of cocoa and stressed that cocoa contains at least 700 properties which are all beneficial to the body. So if you need another excuse to add more dark chocolate to your diet, ‘700 beneficial properties’ covers it all.

Cocoa can be used to make several products such as cocoa powder, cocoa balls and cocoa butter.

Cocoa butter is excellent for the skin and hair. I use it daily – Dain James.

Did you know that there are three types of cocoa found in the world which are all grown right here in Grenada? Isn’t that something?

As part of the tour, there is the option to make your own cocoa products (somewhat) using a cocoa grinder and of course, your own skill. Actually, it’s more like, you grind your own cocoa beans and shape it into whatever you choose. 🙂

This is what a few children did with their grinded cocoa.

Another attraction of the House of Chocolate Grenada is the ‘Chocolateria’  where tasty treats can be purchased. Cheesecake lovers, you have to try their chocolate cheesecake. All of that smooth, creamy awesomeness in one slice. My heart was instantly won over!

You can also get a view of Maria making something chocolaty and delicious.

If you’ll like to have your snack, but you’re not quite ready to leave, the ‘Cocoa Lime’ provides a comfortable, cozy spot to sit and munch on your treats. It makes perfect sense to have chocolate running off the edges of the table, don’t you think?

I was amazed to see the number of local products made from Grenada’s cocoa at House of Chocolate Grenada. These are only a few.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at House of Chocolate Grenada Museum. I loved the decor and the food, but I really appreciated the interaction with the staff, including the tour with Dain. I promise, I will be back.
